Conservation and Research Internships

FLA-Sponsored summer interns (left to right): Andrew Yokotake, Annie Stevens, Talia Schmidt, Miranda Schmidt, Zuni Zarate-Ramirez

Continuing its support of research and education, the Friends of Lyon Arboretum sponsors college students for the 7th year to learn and train at the arboretum. These Summer Interns train for 10 weeks in their assigned department working on their projects and also rotate through the other departments to gain a broad understanding of the arboretum’s operations and research. This unique hands-on experience can influence the course of academic and career choices. Some students have returned after their internships to work at the arboretum and others maintain their ties to the arboretum providing valuable professional networking. The 2023 cohort of Summer Interns supported by FLA through your generous donations are (L to R):

  • Andrew Yokotake (Micropropagation Lab)

  • Annie Stevens (Seed Lab)

  • Talia Schmidt (Horticulture)

  • Miranda Schmidt (Education)

  • Zuni Zarate-Ramirez (Grounds)

We look forward to continuing and growing these internship programs for 2024 and welcome your support.
